Not All Smooth Sailing for Alexi and Mark!

Alexi and Mark When things go a little different to plan on your wedding day the secret is HOW you deal with it…

The Adventure Begins…

Picture a perfectly sunny day, clear skies, becalmed seas and a gentle breeze.
The bride wanted a ‘different’ wedding so chose to have a ceremony out at sea off Mooloolaba with all the guests enjoying a day on the water!

The spacious catamaran chartered through Set Sail Cruises was loaded with scrumptious goodies and plenty of bubbly. Bride and groom, billy lids, cousins, family and friends, the photographer none other than the famous Alan Hughes, little old moi and the roadie Mike all boarded with great excitement.
Out though the Mooloolaba Spit we ventured as the music played. The guests were all in great spirits – ready for a day on the high seas. We were all looking forward to the grand adventure.

Changing Tack…
After about ¾ hour we noticed the breeze became a little less gentle. Before you could blink the ocean was not quite as calm as when we blissfully sailed out the Spit…
Oh my!! Like 10 pins in a bowling alley they began to drop – ever so graciously the bride, groom and half the guests succumbed to the curse of the briny foam – seasickness!! The roadie, the celebrant and the photographer were fine and soon became the paramedics as we tried to comfort the dying guests…
The vessel was swiftly turned round but there was still some time to endure this saga on the high seas.
Through bouts of nausea, the bride smiled and made jokes. The groom was equally light hearted. Everyone was so polite and endearing as they fell prey to this heinous affliction.
With the Mooloolaba Spit looming we held on!

Land Ho!

Finally we sailed through the mouth at Mooloolaba. Instantly! As if someone had turned off the switch – ALL the dying were human again and wandered around the deck being just as polite  and endearing as if nothing had ever happened.!! Did we dream it?! The bubbly began to flow again. Out came the seafood and exotic nibbles as we quietly sailed back up the Mooloolah River to the Mooloolaba Yacht Club.
Plan B was quickly enacted as we bid a fond farewell to Our Captain Brian – who couldn’t have been more gracious and accommodating and we all drove back to the family acreage at Peregian Beach.
Long shadows and a golden sunset set Mother Nature’s second beautiful backdrop of the day for the wedding ceremony.

Alexi and Mark laughed and relaxed as they exchanged their vows on dry land. Amidst great joy and abounding congratulations the party began again in earnest and continued well into the night.
Yes it WAS different.
